Giselle Bailey is an award-winning Jamaican-American director & artist whose work blends documentary, narrative and conceptual art into explosively visual, metaphor-driven storytelling. Rooted in the spirit of her Jamaican heritage, she explores myth, cultural-shifting icons, and outsiders who create new futures. Her latest film, “Seen & Heard”— an answer to how the revolution might actually be televised— features Issa Rae, Oprah Winfrey, Swizz Beatz, Shonda Rhimes, Tyler Perry, Lena Waithe, Cord Jefferson, Terence Nance, among others. It premiered at SXSW and will air on HBO in 2025.

BIOGRAPHY

Giselle’s work moves across documentary, conceptual art, branded content, and visual effects— allowing her to shape stories as a director, creative director, producer, and writer. Her recent projects include the upcoming HBO documentary Seen & Heard (2025); Netflix’s Ladies First; Hulu/ONYX’s Hair Tales; the HBO feature The Legend of the Underground, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival; and the video installation Shadow Work, exhibited at Fort Mason’s Gallery 308.

She was named to DOC NYC’s celebrated 40 Under 40 list and is an alum of the Concordia Fellowship. Her work has been recognized by the IDA, NAACP, Critics’ Choice Awards, and supported by organizations such as Firelight Media, the Ford Foundation, and Sundance among others. She has been featured in outlets including The New York Times, Vogue, Rolling Stone and Good Morning America.

Executive produced by Issa Rae, the upcoming HBO documentary Seen & Heard is a how-to for authorship and ownership in television. Charismatic, critical, and urgent, the series features some of the most influential voices in the genre—taking viewers on a kaleidoscopic journey through the personal stories of the creatives behind your favorite shows and the tumultuous history of Black television across decades.
